To Switzerland!

To Switzerland! D0u@53@4l

For some reason this blog post never published in 2014 so here it is all it’s glory in 2016. Hooray for technology!

The day began far, far too early and I was up at 7am to drag my weary bones & heavy cases to Stansted.

Trying to get a one hour show into a carry on bag and single hold suitcase with Easyjet’s miserly 20kg baggage allowance was a feat in itself. I’m pretty sure I managed to defy most of the laws of physics and may write up my discoveries as a manual on how to build a real life Tardis.

The contents of my two bags looked something like this:

  • iPhone.
  • iPhone charger
  • MacBook pro
  • Toothbrush
  • 4 pairs of pants
  • 19kg of props.

I was feeling slightly intimidated by the other comedian on this short tour of Switzerland, Nick Doody because he’s just SO damn good.

Here, see for yourself:

He also wrote probably the best song ever about clowns (I know that’s a pretty small field but….)

So I was greatly relieved when my friend Bethany Black tweeted this apropos nothing:

Aww bless her lovely little Goth face.

Aww bless her lovely little Goth face.

Beth’s awesome by the way. You should check her out

Nick turned out to be as delightful & charming as he is funny – even if he is a master level chess player, accomplished pianist and francophone.
If you get the chance to see him seize it with both hands. He’s nowhere near as smug as he has every right to be.

The venue, club and audience were absolutely delightful.

Nick did a splendid and very well received opening 30mins and wasn’t remotely phased by the venue’s projector “heckling” him mid set as it decided to put on a 90’s rave style light show behind him while the promoter struggled manfully with the remote control to turn the insane machine off.

Irritatingly talented polymath Nick Doody

We coerced the projector back to life during the break with threats and the application of a mysterious Swiss tool know as “Le gros marteau”. I assume it’s a special attachment on one of their fancy knives.

The new opener worked brilliantly and, as it’s silent was perfect for an international audience.

They were such a lovely crowd to play for that I ended up doing way over the 60 mins I was down to do.

It was also a day of loss.

I managed to forget my coffee at the airport and, having invested an outrageous £35 in one of those superduper Apple Travel Convertor things I managed to leave it in the dressing room in Geneva in the rush to get to Lausanne before the hotel staff went home (I know, right?).

This left me so angry with myself that I couldn’t get to sleep until waaaay past 2am and was up again at 8:30pm today.

I need to get ready for tonight’s show now.

Speak to ya’ll tomorrow.

P.S. Swiss hotels are even meaner with their leg room than Ryan Air
